PORT JEFFERSON, N.Y., Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The family of Robert Collier, New Thought author who inspired The Secretwith his book, The Secret the Ages , continues the legacy of the prolific writer, advertising pioneer, and author of what is considered the bible of direct mail marketing, his worldwide best seller, The Robert Collier Letter Book. Robert Collier Publications (RCPubs), is now run by the family of Collier's Grandson, Patrick Collier, with wife Joyce Philbin-Collier as CEO.
The success of the 2007 book by Rhonda Byrne, sparked a frenzy of big book publishers attempting to capitalize on Collier's works. "We found numerous cheap versions of Collier's works. In some cases pages are missing, and text have been changed. This is unacceptable," says Joyce Philbin-Collier. Companies are wantonly claiming Public Domain for titles we have registration certificates for. We recently found bnpublishing printing and distributing The Robert Collier Letter Book, a title still clearly under copyright with RCPubs. Another company has pirated the e-version. This version actually spells Robert Collier's name wrong. Sites such as Amazon.com have been proactive in removing listings that violate copyright and have been very responsive. The Secret of the Ages and Riches Within Your Reach are distributed by Penguin/Tarcher. While claiming public domain, they post a copyright notice. This confuses the consumer and is a misrepresentation of rights they don't have. Prayer Works is another title currently being pirated.
The copyright law of 1976 was intended to allow writers to use earlier works for derivative works. It was not intended for the purpose of taking entire works, wrapping them in different covers, and claiming a new copyright. "RCPubs will seek an injunction against any company who violates their copyrights," says Philbin-Collier. Other versions of RCPubs titles are being distributed without permission, and without labeling those books accordingly. Consumers deserve to know which books are not authentic.
Robert Collier'slife has been synopsized into a few paragraphs, until now. Philbin-Collier reviewed archives of family ancestry dating back to the settling of Jamestown. She met with historians, and is planning a World Premiere of the Robert Collier Exhibit set for March/April of 2014. A Collier biography will launch concurrently with the Premiere, and will include unpublished works by Collier and family members. Many unknown facts will be revealed.
The mission statement of RCPubs has always been the preservation of Collier's principles and work.
